Tim Armour Pens Op-Ed for Huffington Post

In a recent op-ed piece for Huffington Post Science, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund president and CEO Tim Armour makes the case for optimism regarding Alzheimer’s research.

Even in the current tense political climate, Armour states, nearly all presidential candidates from both major parties have called for increased funding of research. This growing awareness of the need for research comes from two places. First, the public is beginning to understand the severity of the crisis: Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in the country, and promises to destabilize Medicare and Medicaid.

The second reason why we are seeing a push for funding, says Armour, is hope. Alzheimer’s has challenged the best minds in research for decades, but we are finally beginning to see a consensus emerge about how the disease works and how we might intervene to stop its progression.
