Rudy Tanzi, Ph.D., Creates App for Alzheimer’s Patients

Posted April 8, 2016

Cure Alzheimer’s Fund Research Consortium Chair Rudy Tanzi, Ph.D., has assisted in the creation of a new mobile app for Alzheimer’s patients and caregivers, called SPARK Memories Radio.

Music has been observed to improve moods and spark activity in Alzheimer’s patients, even those who no longer respond to much in their environment. Tanzi proposes that the music most likely to resonate with patients is music from their “formative years” – their teens and early twenties. The radio app makes it easy to find music from the right time period after entering your loved one’s birth date and genre preferences.

As an avid musician himself, Dr. Tanzi is passionate about the power of music and hopes this app will improve the daily lives of many patients and caregivers.

The app is available for iPhone and iPad, with an Android version coming soon. After a 7-day free trial, it costs $9.99/month.
