Dr. Barbara Bendlin is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a guest Professor at the University of Gothenburg. She serves as the Deputy Director of the UW-Madison Center for Health Disparities Research, directs the Neuroscience and Public Policy Graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and leads the Research Education Component of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Her research program is centered on understanding the factors that contribute to dementia risk, including the exposome and the gut microbiome. Together with Dr. Federico Rey, she has conducted studies pointing toward a role for the gut microbiome in development of Alzheimer’s disease and related pathologies. She is particularly interested in translating scientific discoveries into interventions and strategies that can improve the lives of individuals and families affected by neurodegenerative disease.
