Mountain Lake Golf Tournament

Posted October 31, 2013

For the last few years Mountain Lake, a private club and community in Lake Wales, Fla., has held a yearly fundraising tournament to raise money to fight breast cancer. But this year club members decided to support a different cause, since one of their own has Alzheimer’s disease.

On April 28, 2013, a total of 44 golfers participated in a “better ball” tournament to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Other club members donated to the cause as well. Before the event, the club distributed Cure Alzheimer’s Fund pamphlets to help inform people about the organization and the cause.

“We had a bigger group than in the past because the cause was more personal, and we were focused on helping someone we are close to,” said Jonathan Powell, head golf professional and organizer of the event. “There are so many organizations you can donate to these days, but we all want our donations to make a difference. At Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 100 percent of the money raised goes directly to help find a cure.”

It was a great day and everyone was on board. Powell plans to make this an annual event.
