Paul Coté is an artist that discovered his artistic gift through the conflict of an internal struggle. From this darkness – Paul emerged with a new light, energy, and destiny. A deep need and desire to unleash what had been repressed from behind the portals of the subconscious were now unlocked and freed.
Coté is an artist with insight, passion, and a drive towards experimentation. As one explores his paintings, one begins to truly appreciate the magnificently expressive swirls, speckled dots, explosive areas of color, and paint manipulation that truly characterize and authenticate his work.
Coté is a visionary artist at the highest level – and his work embodies the emotions of human beings who envision an internal reality not typically seen, but rather felt within one’s heart. Coté has invented a visual language all of his own. A Coté piece is created by layer upon layer of emotion, manipulated just-right to achieve breathtaking visuals.
Coté has exhibited his work locally and nationally. The work can be found in a myriad of public and private collections including The Smithsonian, Harvard, Mass. General, and Butler.. Coté uses his art to teach classes like “freedom of thought”, fundraisers for Alzheimer’s, and lead disciplinary performances.
Paul M. Coté was born and raised in Woonsocket, R.I., and is a prominent member of the Providence Art Club, and other Rhode Island artist communities.
