Dear Family and Friends,
On April 15, 2013, I will be joining my fiancée Travis Songer to run the Boston Marathon for the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund is committed to funding research with the “highest probability of preventing, slowing or reversing Alzheimer’s disease.” Statistics show that every 70 seconds, another American is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Worldwide, 35 million people have the disease, and if we do nothing that number will skyrocket to 115 million in 2050.
The Boston Marathon has always been my favorite day in Boston. I love the excitement and the runners along with their personal stories never cease to inspire me. Moreover, I am moved by watching groups of people who work together to support a common goal such as finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
From a very early age, I remember watching the Marathon with my parents and my sister (my sister ran the Marathon in 2009 and is currently helping to coach me for this marathon). I have always enjoyed being a spectator and I am so excited to become one of the marathoners in 2013!
As many of you know, 2013 is a momentous year for Travis and I. We will be getting married two weeks after the Marathon. Our wedding will be at Mile 21 of the Marathon route (at Boston College) and we had already planned to take some wedding pictures at the Johnny Kelley statue in Newton. I will be thinking of our wedding when we pass Mile 21 and that will be enough to motivate me for the extra 5 miles to the finish line (plus I’ve heard that it’s all downhill from there, right?).
I am so happy that the Boston Marathon will be a part of our 2013 – it will be the experience of a lifetime.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Travis and I will think of all of you when we make it to Copley!
