Aurea Nilda Ruiz passed away at 83 years of age on Saturday, March 26, 2022. After a long hard battle with Alzheimer’s, she passed away with a loving family by her side. A dedicated educator, a caring mother, an adoring wife, a loving sister, and a beloved grandmother she spent her life caring for others. Born in the hillside of Moca, Puerto Rico she migrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1956 with her mother Josefina Quiñones, and her brother Jose. She proved to be a gifted student and graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1958, the first in her family to receive a high school diploma. Upon graduating she worked for the United States Navy at Bush Terminal Offices in Brooklyn. During this time she met her handsome husband, Juan Ruiz. They were married in 1962 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and soon started a family. After having two children, Evelyn and John, she returned to academics to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1977 earning cum laude honors and went on to earn a double master’s from Long Island University, another family first! As a public school teacher, she inspired students to be interested in the world around them for over 32 years. After retiring, she found joy in teaching her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Juan, two children, Evelyn and John, and her six grandchildren; Patrick, Megan, John, Stephen, Emily, and Kenny. Aurea’s memory will bring joy, happiness, and love to those who cared for her.
Aurea Nilda Ruiz falleció a los 83 años de edad el sábado 26 de marzo de 2022. Después de una larga y dura batalla con Alzheimer’s, falleció con la familia a su lado. Una educadora dedicada, una madre cariñosa, una esposa adoradora, una hermana y abuela querida, pasó su vida cuidando de los demás. Nacida en la ladera de Moca, Puerto Rico, emigró a Brooklyn, Nueva York en 1956 con su madre Josefina Quiñones y su hermano José. Demostró ser una estudiante talentosa y se graduó de Bay Ridge High School en 1958, la primera en su familia en recibir un diploma de escuela secundaria. Al graduarse, trabajó para la Marina de los Estados Unidos en las oficinas de Bush Terminal en Brooklyn. Durante este tiempo conoció a su apuesto esposo, Juan Ruiz. Se casaron en 1962 en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro y pronto formaron una familia. Después de tener dos hijos, Evelyn y John, volvió a la academia para perseguir su sueño de toda la vida de convertirse en maestra. Se graduó de Brooklyn College en 1977 y obtuvo honores cum laude y luego obtuvo una doble maestría de la Universidad de Long Island, ¡otra primicia familiar! Como maestra de escuela pública, inspiró a los estudiantes a interesarse en el mundo que los rodea durante más de 32 años. Después de jubilarse, encontró alegría en enseñar a sus nietos. Le sobreviven su esposo, Juan, dos hijos, Evelyn y John, y sus seis nietos; Patrick, Megan, John, Stephen, Emily y Kenny. El recuerdo de Aurea traerá alegría, felicidad y amor a quienes la cuidaron.
