Norma Jean (Patton) Demorest

Norma Jean (Patton) Demorest, age 82, died peacefully at the Atria Del Sol memory care home in Mission Viejo, California on Monday, September 4th, 2017. The cause was complications associated with late stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Born January 10, 1935, in Wellston Ohio, to Theora Grace Wood and Joseph Patton, she graduated from Hilliard High School in 1953. On September 13, 1953 in New Rome Ohio, she married David Allen Demorest of Westerville, Ohio.

Norma and David moved their young family of four boys to Woodland Hills, California in 1963, where she raised them through college while working as an administrative assistant for the Los Angeles Unified School District and, later, Rockwell International. After retirement, she settled in the southern California communities of Palm Desert and Menifee , separated by a 5-year return to Columbus, Ohio.

Norma was a loving, dedicated mother and proud matriarch of ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her four sons: Jon (and Carol) Demorest of Corona Del Mar, California; Jeff (and Lori) Demorest of Coto de Caza, California; Brian (and Jennifer) Demorest of Newbury Park, California; and Jim (and Cynthia) Demorest of Escondido, California.

Norma will be remembered as a single mom of modest means who nevertheless had the character and fortitude to raise four sons with unconditional love, instilling within each of them values which continue to be the source of her family’s blessings into the third generation.

Other survivors include her brothers John Patton of Hilliard, Ohio and Robert Patton of Gaffney, South Carolina; her sisters Helen Maye Goetz of Daviston, Alabama and Karen McCathrin of Nashville, Tennessee.
