Ramon Tulio Castano Diaz

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Ramon Tulio Castano Diaz on July 23, 2025 at the age of 102. The funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 70-01 Kessel St. 11375 on July 28, 2025, at 9:45 AM.

Ramon was born March 21, 1923, in El Santuario, Colombia, South America. At 18 years of age he joined the Naval Academy, excelling in Swimming and Boxing. He went on to become a Communications Officer and Instructor. He was very disciplined, hardworking and honest; ever with a twinkle in his eye and quick dry humor; and these attributes would serve him well.

Beginning a new life in the United States was challenging. He worked as a dishwasher at first, but with his Military experience he gained a position with The Irving Trust Company Bank on Wall Street, where he was beloved by his fellow workers. He received several promotions, eventually landing a high-security position coding the checks to and from Europe and Asia.

Ramon and Fanny eventually bought a house in Forest Hills, Queens, where he lived for 40 years until his passing. In retirement, he loved spending time with the family, here and in Colombia. He and Fanny were always together: going to Church, tending to the garden and taking walks together, and going to the beach or cookouts with family and friends. Ramon also volunteered driving cancer patients to and from their treatments. He exercised regularly with swimming and weightlifting. He would wake up early, jog to the park, and do his calisthenics and breathing exercises.

He is survived by his wife Fanny, his daughter Maria del Rosario, his son and his wife Aparicio and Maria Loida, his grandchildren Bonnie and Claudine, his great-grandchildren Elijah and Elizabeth Grace, his sister and her husband Soledad and Ira Rubin, and the rest of his loving family. He lived a life of integrity and honesty.

He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
