Theodore Zwang, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Neurology; Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School

Dr. Theodore Zwang is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS), where he deploys neuron-like electronics in combination with virtual reality experiments to understand how cognitive dysfunction arises from aging and Alzheimer’s disease. He obtained his Ph.D from Caltech, working with Professor Jacqueline K. Barton in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, where he took advantage of a variety of chemistry and physical techniques to understand the role of DNA-mediated electrochemistry in biological processes. He was a postdoctoral scholar with Professor Charles Lieber in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University, where he shifted the focus of his work to developing biomimetic neurotechnology that allows for persistent recording of activity across brain regions. Dr. Zwang is a recipient of the Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Institute on Aging and has received comprehensive training from Professor Bradley Hyman at MGH and HMS.
