Boomerangfit is a group of Baby Boomers committed to getting back the fitness we once enjoyed in our 20s and 30s. There is no reason we need to succumb to the “normal” symptoms of age if we eat right, move, exercise, sleep, laugh, enjoy life and, most importantly, continue to challenge ourselves and our comfort zones.
Team BoomerangFit is not only committed to physical challenges that stretch our limits but also that will help us raise money for the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. In past years, we competed in a Trifecta of Spartan Obstacle races in Boston, Phoenix, Salt Lake and Las Vegas. We also climbed Mt. Baker, in the Cascade Mountains north of Seattle and have competed in many smaller trail runs and other races.
In 2018, our primary goal will be to climb Mt Rainier in September. And, along the way, we plan to climb a few Colorado 14ers as well as do some trail running and stand up paddleboarding. If you are interested in getting back your fitness, come check us out at www.boomerangfit.com
Why do we climb to cure Alzheimer’s? Because Alzheimer’s Disease is a horrific fate for anyone. I know this first hand because my grandmother, my mother, my aunt as well as several neighbors and friends have either died from or are now suffering from this horrible disease.
Today, 6.0 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. By 2050, up to 16 million will have the disease. Payments for care in 2012 were estimated to be $200 billion. Without a cure, these figures will nearly triple by the year 2050 and will most likely bankrupt the healthcare system as we know it. In your lifetime you will be negatively impacted by this disease either from experiencing it yourself or in your family or simply through the degradation of our healthcare system.
Since its founding, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund has contributed more than $70,000,000 to research, and its funded initiatives have been responsible for a number of key breakthroughs. Cure Alzheimer’s Fund supports some of the best scientific minds in the field of Alzheimer’s research. Also fully 100 percent of the funds raised by the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund go directly to research—the Board of Directors covers all overhead expenses.
