Daunn Schroeder

Daunn Gervaise (Prescott) Schroeder, a long-time resident of Red Wing, MN, passed away on December 6, 2020 at the age of 87.

Daunn was born on September 8, 1933, in Litchfield, MN to Lawrence and Mabel (Bode) Prescott. She grew up in Shevlin, MN, three miles from beautiful Itasca State Park, where she enjoyed many happy times with her family, skipping over the path of stones that forms “The Source” of the Mississippi. She returned to this special place many times throughout her life, delighting in those wonderful memories.

Daunn attended a rural grade school where her mother was a teacher, and she graduated with honors from high school in Bagley, MN in 1950. She entered nurse’s training the following year and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND in 1953. While working at that hospital, she met Glenn E. Schroeder, a medical student, and they were married in August 1957. In 1958 they moved to Dallas, Texas, and Daunn continued her nursing career until her first child, Carolyn, was born in 1959. The family moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in 1961, to Fergus Falls for a few years until 1963, and then back to Red Wing in 1964, after their second daughter, Jean, was born.

Daunn was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, an active volunteer at Sunnyside School in Red Wing, and a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage, finding special joy in the Christmas season. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and reading, sharing all of these interests with her family over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mabel Prescott, and her husband, Glenn. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Argentati and Jean Schroeder, and some extended family members.

Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Daunn’s name to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund through the Donate link below or by mail, 34 Washington Street, Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
