Edward S. “Eddie” Bajan

Edward S. “Eddie” Bajan, 93, of Nazareth, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019 in Galilee House of Moravian Hall Square, in Nazareth. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Benn) Bajan, they would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on November 11th. Eddie was born on May 14, 1926 in Nazareth, to the late Stephen and Anna (Toth) Bajan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII as a B-24 tail gunner. Eddie owned and operated Bajan’s Market all his life until his retirement in 2002. Eddie was well known from his days of driving his butcher truck door-to-door in Nazareth and the surrounding communities of Stockertown, Tatamy, Belfast, Bath and Dexter speaking a mixture of the German, Hungarian and PA Dutch languages of his largely immigrant customer base. His knowledge of fresh and smoked meats was well known and respected throughout the Lehigh Valley. Having had to leave high school after 9th grade to fill a void in the business left by his brother, Alex’s, drafting into WWII, Eddie was particularly proud of being awarded his GED late in life in the presence of his children and grandchildren. He was an active and devout member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Nazareth, where he served on Church Council, taught Sunday School for 50 years and volunteered with the Helping Hands Group. Eddie bowled at the Holy Family Club for 50 years and was also a member of the Nazareth VFW Post #4366. He enjoyed playing his harmonica, singing Hungarian ditties and dancing the polka with his beloved Sweetie, Shirley. A humble, honest and hardworking man, he was loved by all.
