Florence Jane (Mills) Benton

Florence Jane Benton joined the heavenly arms of Jesus on March 26, 2023 at the age of 81. A native of Lubbock, TX; she was born to the late William Franklin and Edith Thompson (Johnson) Mills on February 22, 1942.

Florence married the love of her life, Bruce Eugene Benton, and together they had five children.

She enjoyed crafting, sewing, gardening, and traveling to Sipapu, NM, and through the mountains. Another hobby she did was scrapbooking and family genealogy; she always made sure to add the finest details to remember special moments.

She was a devout woman of Faith who generously cared for her families: blood, church, and adoptive. She always made sure to keep her faith strong and used her Bible as her instrument and guidance through life.

Once she met you, you were no longer a stranger and she accepted you and loved you as family. A natural caregiver by heart, she gracefully cared for her family and loved ones in times of need. Some of her biggest joys in life were spent around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she adored and loved unconditionally.

Florence was a true matriarch of her family, and her love, presence, and warming heart will be greatly missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce Eugene Benton; and sisters, Faye Lee and Francis Mills. Florence leaves behind to cherish her memories her children: Lonnie Del Benton and wife Rosie Maria Chiquito; Stephen Craig Benton; Jamie Gail Benton; Marla Sheree Dorman and husband Michael Dewayne; Sterling Kent Benton and wife Shelly Dawn; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister of the heart, Beverly McCormick; and a host of other dear and loving family members and friends.

The family invites you to join them as they honor and celebrate this beautiful woman. Visitation was held at the Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, March 31, 2023.
