Glenda K. Severson

It is with love and sorrow we announce the loss of Glenda Chatham Kay Severson, at the age of 72 on April 19, 2023. Glenda was most often referred to as “Gee Gee”, a name she loved because it was given to her when she first became a grandmother. Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Otho and Bertha Chatham (GA); her sister Ellen Payne (SC), and her brothers, Kenneth Chatham (GA) and Roy Chatham (GA). Glenda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Michael (Bo) Shields (TN): her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Amy Kay: grandchildren (and great-grandchildren): Dakotah and Allison Kay (Braelon), Sophia Kay, Dalton Kay, Sawyer Kay, Kevin and Hillary Shields (Wilson and Whitlee), Casey and Denise Shields. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

A native of Georgia, Glenda was born on August 11, 1950, in Carnesville, Georgia. She moved to the Atlanta metro area, raised her children and had a career as a hairstylist. In retirement, she lived in Nashville, Tennessee with her daughter and son-in-law.

Glenda’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was most happy when her clan was together sharing a laugh, a meal, and making memories. She loved to crochet and made the most beautiful afghans. While she loved to travel and was ready to go anywhere, her happy place was the beach. Glenda was known for her kindness, generous heart and willingness to help. She was quick to volunteer. She completed the Susan G. Komen 60-mile walk twice. She always had a love for music and loved to watch her son preform with his bands. Glenda was a vegetarian since age 13 but could make the best full course meals. Her smile and laugh will be dearly missed.
