Joanne M. Harrington

Joanne M. (Harris) Harrington formerly, from East Kingston/Exeter, passed away November 8, 2022 with her husband by her side following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born on April 1, 1933, in Everett, Ma. Following High School graduation in 1951, Joanne spent the next three years at the Whidden Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Everett Ma. She successfully completed her nurse training and passed the state RN exam in 1954. She married in 1956 and spent the next 66 years with the love of her life Richard W. (Dick) Harrington of Everett Ma. Her greatest joy came from her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, recent great-grandmother, and Aunty Jo to many nieces and nephews.

During her life, Joanne continued her calling to help others by working modified hours at three suburban Boston Hospitals while starting a family with young two sons. In 1971 after relocating to Exeter NH, she was hired as the Brentwood School Nurse. After years of evening classes at New England College, she was awarded her BS degree. In 1979, she and her husband moved to Lenox, Ma. where she was employed as a nurse for Elder Services of Berkshire County where she advanced to supervisor in 1986 until her retirement in 1999, and returned to New Hampshire in 2000.

Surviving family members include her husband Richard W. Harrington of Salem NH, a son

Daniel E Harrington and daughter-in-law Cynthia (Hunt) of Merrimack NH, a daughter in law

Lea (Fortin) Harrington of Exeter, NH, and grandchildren Lindsey White and husband Ryan of Belgrade, Mt., Neal Harrington and wife Kayla of Merrimack, NH., and Natalea Harrington of Exeter, NH.

Mrs. Harrington was predeceased by a son Mark R. Harrington of Exeter, NH, a sister Marilyn (Harris) Clements of Reading MA, and a brother Robert Harris of Indian Rocks Beach, Fl.

A Christian burial celebrating Joanne’s life will be held at Exeter Cemetery, Cremation Garden at a later date. Relatives and friends may refer to the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH for additional information regarding services.
