Mary Margaret Powers Walker, 85, of Sun Lakes, Arizona and formerly of New City and Wyoming New York, passed away on April 15th, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mary traveled to many countries in her later years, but in many ways her heart remained in Wyoming. In long summer days as a child, she acted out Nancy Drew mysteries around town, and played games with other girls who became lifelong friends. Later a music major at Fredonia College, she mastered the piano along with a variety of instruments, and was blessed with perfect pitch. She taught music at the second-grade level after graduation and met her husband Philip, a fellow teacher, at a school in Whitesboro New York.
Gifted with a quick wit and charm, she was the first to laugh at her own jokes. With a wink or a smile, she let on that she could say a lot more, but she was always very careful to know her audience.
She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her son David and her husband Ron.
