Richard H. Anthony

Richard Hurley Anthony, 88, of Willimantic and Fort Myers, FL., passed away peacefully on January 17, 2020 at Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, FL.  Richard, Dick as most knew him, was born in Willimantic to George and Ruth (Robarge) Anthony on December 12, 1931.  He was a graduate of Windham High School and the University of Connecticut.  He married Nancy (Pickett) Anthony on Feb. 20, 1964 at St. Columba Church in Columbia. Dick was Head Sales Clerk for many years at Hurley’s Lincoln Shop, until he and Nancy purchased the business in 1986.  Together they ran Hurley’s Men’s Shop until it closed in 2001. Dick was very active in the community serving on many boards and committees and sponsoring numerous youth sports teams.  He was a proud grandfather, a tennis enthusiast, a UConn Huskies and Boston Red Sox fan, and loved to reminisce about the history of Willimantic. He is predeceased by his wife Nancy.  In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by his brothers William (Bill), George, Donald, Rodney, Gerald, Irving, Malcolm, Kendall, Linwood, and Terrance.  Dick is survived by his daughter and son in law Beth and Gary DeCarli of Fort Myers, FL; daughter Lynn Anthony of Ludlow, VT, grandchildren Griffin DeCarli, and Wyatt and Mackenzie Koch; his brother Joel, sister Karen, many beloved nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Always encouraging all to “Keep the Faith”.   The family would like to thank both the Shell Point Larsen Pavilion and Hope Hospice Care teams for their patients support and unwavering care for Dick while in their care.
