Kapil V. Ramachandran, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Neurological Sciences, Columbia University

Dr. Kapil Ramachandran is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Columbia University in the Departments of Neurology and Neuroscience. He discovered a new principle of neuronal protein homeostasis and neuronal communication (the neuronal membrane proteasome, or neuroproteasome) as a graduate student and was elected to the Harvard Society of Fellows as a Junior Fellow. Subsequently, his lab at Columbia has focused entirely on neuroproteasome biology, tackling this question from a pure basic science perspective. This has recently made unexpected mechanistic connections to the biology of neurodegeneration, taking him and the lab in new directions.
