Maegan L. Capitano, Ph.D.

Dr. Maegan L. Capitano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is also an Associate Member of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she serves as Director of the Flow Cytometry Core, and a member and Director of the Hypoxia Core for the NIDDK-funded IU Cooperative Center for Excellence in Hematology. Dr. Capitano’s research program is focused on understanding how environmental stressors—particularly oxygen tension and metabolic stress—regulate hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (HSPC) function, immune recovery, and clinical efficacy following transplantation. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals including Blood, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Leukemia, Nature Communications, and PNAS, and serves on editorial boards for several hematology and stem cell journals.
