Dr. Mattsson-Carlgren is Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in clinical neuroscience at Lund University, specialist in clinical chemistry and neurology, and specialist physician at the memory clinic in Malmö (joint appointment between Lund University and Region Skåne).His research is primarily focused on Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.

Dr. Mattsson-Carlgren’s main goal is to improve diagnostic and prognostic methods, optimize design of clinical trials, and increase understanding of disease mechanisms. Specifically, he has contributed to the development of effective plasma-based biomarkers, such as plasma p-tau217, for diagnosing and providing prognosis for Alzheimer’s disease. He has also integrated analysis of biomarkers in body fluids with brain imaging and genetic data to increase understanding of clinically relevant disease mechanisms. His research has resulted in over 300 scientific publications cited over 30,000 times, with results published in leading journals such as JAMA, Nature Medicine, Neurology and Brain.

Dr. Mattsson-Carlgren was a Ph.D. student at the University of Gothenburg (2006–2012), postdoc at the University of California San Francisco (2012–2015), and researcher at Lund University since 2015. Today, he is a principal investigators for the BioFINDER studies at Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, which are internationally recognized for their contributions to discovery and validation of biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease.
