Ronald B. DeMattos, Ph.D.

Ronald B. DeMattos, Ph.D., is a retired Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for Neurobiologics at Eli Lilly.  Dr. DeMattos received his doctorate in molecular and cellular biochemistry from SUNY at Stony Brook (1998) and performed a post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine under the guidance of Dr. David Holtzman.  Dr. DeMattos joined Eli Lilly in 2002 and subsequently held multiple scientific positions within Neuroscience Discovery over a 24-year career.  Over this time, he discovered/developed numerous compounds and led multiple successful programs that resulted in clinical studies in Alzheimer’s disease patients including Solanezumab, Donanemab (FDA approved Kisunla) and Remturnetug (Phase-3 ongoing).  Under Dr. DeMattos’s leadership, his team provided important deliverables for the Neuroscience division wherein they developed scientific rationale, identified biomolecules, developed and performed innovative SAR, delivered key proof of concept data, and championed several large molecules through all phases of development.  In addition to his project leadership, Dr. DeMattos led the Indianapolis Neurodegeneration Discovery group (2015 to 2026), which was a large team of talented scientists and staff whose mission was to develop novel first-in class therapies for multiple neurodegeneration indications.
