Associate Professor, University of California, Irvine
Dr. Vivek Swarup is an Associate Professor and Dean’s Fellow in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of California, Irvine. As part of UCI’s Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), his laboratory investigates the transcriptional and regulatory programs that shape brain aging and drive neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease, Down syndrome and related dementias, using unbiased, data-driven functional genomics and systems biology frameworks. To elucidate disease mechanisms at cellular and circuit-relevant resolution, the Swarup Lab integrates single-nucleus multi-omics (snRNA-seq and snATAC-seq), spatial transcriptomics, and integrative network modeling with experimental validation in mouse and iPSC-based systems. Dr. Swarup also serves as Director of the Genomics Core for UCI MODEL-AD, developing and deeply phenotyping next-generation late-onset Alzheimer’s disease mouse models to enable mechanistic discovery and therapeutic testing.
