Learn about the fascinating connection between cancer and Alzheimer’s from Dr. Alexandra Newton. Alexandra Newton, Ph.D., at University of California, San Diego has been studying the enzyme protein kinase C (PKC) for much of her career. While PKC has mainly been researched for its implications in cancer, we now suspect the enzyme plays a role in Alzheimer’s disease as well.
“Its activity has to be perfectly balanced,” Newton explains. “If you don’t have enough or if you have too much, you get pathologies.”
