(Wellesley, MA) – July 18, 2017 – Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, a non-profit dedicated to funding the most promising research to prevent, slow or reverse Alzheimer’s disease, announced today that it has received a $900,000 donation from the Edward and Mary Lord Foundation. This is the Lord Foundation’s largest donation to date.
“We received word from the Trustees of the Foundation of their intended gift in June and are so grateful for their generosity, “ said Tim Armour, President and CEO of Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. “Through our conversations and meetings with the Trustees, we have learned a great deal about Ed and Mary Lord and the purpose of the Foundation. They have had a positive impact on so many lives and their gift will continue that impact in a very meaningful way.”
The Foundation is the legacy of Edward and Mary Lord, lifelong residents of Norwich, Connecticut, and created in 1997. Edward Lord owned and operated theaters in the Norwich area, as well as several manufacturing companies and a real estate development company. His wife Mary worked alongside him and together they built a successful life. They were active philanthropists in their local community.
When Edward and Mary died in 2009, six months apart and both at the age of 98, the bulk of their estate was given to the Foundation so that it could carry on their philanthropic work. The Lords had a special interest in helping the poor, the elderly and children, and their philanthropic goals extended to programs involved in easing suffering in these populations through health care initiatives and educational efforts that would result in long-term improvements for these at risk populations.
“While doing our research for work that is needed for improving health, we became aware of Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. They have an excellent reputation for providing grants to leading Alzheimer’s researchers, and they have a very high rating from Charity Navigator,” said Kathryn Lord, Trustee for the Foundation. “We know that the donation we made will be put towards good use helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.”
Cure Alzheimer’s Fund is a non-profit dedicated to funding the most promising research to prevent, slow or reverse Alzheimer’s disease. Since its founding in 2004, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund has contributed over $50 million to research, and its funded initiatives have been responsible for several key breakthroughs – including the groundbreaking “Alzheimer’s in a Dish” study. Cure Alzheimer’s Fund has received a perfect score of 100 percent regarding its overall financial health from Charity Navigator and a four star rating from the organization for five consecutive years. With 100 percent of funds raised going directly to research, Cure Alzheimer’s has been able to support some of the best scientific minds in the field of Alzheimer’s research.
