Vickiann Vachula “I Like Life” Campaign

Vickiann is selling t-shirts to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s research in honor of her father. Support her “I Like Life” campaign here.

“My father is 79 years old. He has won three medals of honor. He is a pilot. He’s been to Australia and France. He is a doctor. He has met the president. He is the president. Of course, none of this is true. My father has dementia.

He doesn’t know. He can’t explain why he doesn’t know how to use the toaster or tie his shoes, but he insists his memory has never been better.

I’m not sure who this disease is harder on; him or his family. Caring for a loved one with dementia is so much more difficult than you could ever imagine. The time has finally come where we have had to put him in an assisted care facility. During his evaluation, he was asked to write a simple sentence. Without prompting, my father chose to write, “I Like Life”. With all that has been taken from him, from us, he likes life.

I decided to try to raise some money for Alzheimer’s research with my dad’s help. And yours, of course. I know his penmanship is lacking, but if anyone asks what your shirt says, you can tell them about my dad and maybe they will be moved to donate to the cause, too. All proceeds will be forwarded to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.

This is one of those diseases that doesn’t just kill you. It takes away every bit of who you are, who you were, before it takes your life. It happens slowly and painfully. Please help find a cure.” Vickiann Vachula
