Joseph Park, Ph.D.

Instructor in Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Park is a neuroscientist with bioengineering backgrounds in Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Park started working on modeling human neurodegenerative disease by utilizing microfabrication technology (brain-on-a-chip). For the Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), Dr. Park successfully established a 3D human neuron-astrocyte-microglia triculture model that recapitulated neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration (Park et al., Nature Neuroscience, 2018) based on a three-dimensional (3D) human neural cell culture model of AD (Choi et al., Nature, 2014). Currently, his research is focusing on 1) developing a 3D human neuron-astrocyte-microglia triculture model with human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived microglia with functional AD variants and 2) analyzing transcriptomic and proteomic changes of neuronal and glial cells in triculture system.
