Ofer N. Gofrit, M.D., Ph.D.

Professor, Hadassah Medical Organization

I graduated from medical school in 1986 (Ben Gurion University of the Negev) and Ph.D. in molecular biology in 2005 (The Hebrew University). I was appointed a full professor at The Hebrew University in June 2021. Currently, I am the chairman of the Urology Department in The Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital (since 2016). I am the author of more than 200 manuscripts mainly in the field of Oncology (malignancies of the prostate, bladder, and kidneys). Recently, an even more interesting topic rose, Alzheimer’s disease and its fascinating relations with bladder cancer. I joined a group of scientists that share immense enthusiasm and skill, and together we reached some achievements connecting Alzheimer’s disease and BCG, the tuberculosis vaccine used for prevention of bladder cancer recurrence and progression. There is still a long way to go.
