Senior Postdoctoral Scientist, VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research at KU Leuven, Belgium

Sriram Balusu, Ph.D., is a senior postdoctoral scientist in Prof. Bart De Strooper’s laboratory at VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research in Leuven, Belgium. Dr. Balusu’s research focuses on understanding the fundamental processes that govern neurodegeneration and neuronal cell death in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Specifically, he aims to understand the modality of neuronal cell death in AD and the role of the microtubule-associated protein TAU and its modulators in this process. He seeks to integrate complementary approaches using both in vitro and in vivo model systems, as well as post-mortem human brain tissue, to comprehend neurodegeneration mechanisms. His goal is to develop novel bench-to-bedside therapeutic strategies to prevent neuronal cell loss and subsequent cognitive decline, with a special focus on AD.
