Valerija Dobricic, Ph.D.

Senior Scientist & Laboratory Head, Lübeck Interdisciplinary Platform for Genome Analytics (LIGA), University of Lübeck, Germany

Dr. Dobricic received her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology in 2003 and her Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in 2005, both from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, Serbia. In 2013, she completed her Ph.D. at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. From 2008 to 2016, she was senior scientist at the Laboratory for Molecular and Genetic Diagnostics of Neurological Diseases, Clinic of Neurology, Belgrade (Serbia). Since 2016, she has been working at the Lübeck Interdisciplinary Platform for Genome Analytics (LIGA; www.liga.uni-luebeck.de) at the University of Lübeck, Germany, as Senior Scientist and Laboratory Head.

Dr. Dobricic’s research interests and expertise lie in the identification and functional characterization of genes and gene products, particularly for neurodegenerative diseases. A specific focus in this area is the elucidation of the role of short tandem repeats in Alzheimer’s disease genetics, as well as studying the impact of miRNA dysregulation in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Dobricic has received numerous awards and stipends throughout her career and has co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications.
