Albert “Al” John Rossi, 81, a two-year resident of Pasadena and previously of Odenton and Mechanicsville, MD, died on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Sadie’s Serenity Creekside in Pasadena from debility resulting from vascular dementia. Born June 12, 1942 in New York, to the late Albert L. and Rose (Paterno) Rossi, he graduated from Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, MD and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Frostburg State College. Al worked for the Prince George’s County Board of Education as an English teacher for two years before transitioning to a career as a Guidance Counselor for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed traveling the world, interior decorating, collecting duck decoys, music and the arts, driving his sports cars, shopping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends, especially when that time was spent enjoying good Italian food. Al is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Joseph “Joe” Gargano of Millersville, MD; and three granddaughters, Olivia, Danielle, and Lianna Gargano, daughters of Allison and Joe. Immediate family surviving relatives also include his nephew, Christian “Chris” Otto, son of Al’s recently deceased and cherished only sibling, sister Linda (Rossi) Otto, who passed on September 29, 2023, and resided with her son Chris in Greenspring, West Virginia. Additional surviving relatives include Al’s beloved cousins on his mother’s side of the family: Marilyn (Catalanotto) Katcher of Lake Oswego, Oregon, daughter of Angela (Paterno) Catalanotto and Doreen (Campisi) Wasserman of Bergenfield, New Jersey, daughter of Virginia (Paterno) Campisi. Surviving cousins on Al’s father’s side include Robert, Jeanie, John, Peter, and Donna Congedo, all children of Emily (Rossi) Congedo, Al’s aunt. In addition, Al is survived by Dorothy (Minke) Petriccione, his devoted wife for 25 years. Although they divorced in 1990, Al and Dorothy remained close friends and shared copious time together, devoting an abundance of attention to Allison & Joe and their three daughters. Friends are invited to celebrate Al’s life on Sunday, October 22 from 12 p.m. until his funeral service begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
