Helene Benveniste, M.D., Ph.D.

Professor of Anesthesiology, Yale School of Medicine

Dr. Benveniste is currently professor of Anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine. Over the course of her career, she has developed innovative techniques and diagnostic MRI-based platforms for brain imaging focused on neurodegenerative disease including Alzheimer’s Disease and its early detection. She also demonstrated that neuritic Ab plaques in specimens from human subjects with Alzheimer’s could be non-invasively detected by T2*-weighted MRI. Benveniste’s most recent work has been focused on studies of visualizing the ‘glymphatic system’– a novel peri-vascular based system in the central nervous system involved in brain waste removal and on understanding how the glymphatic system and cerebrospinal fluid transport is affected in Alzheimer’s disease.
